Central Iowa Tourism Board talks about the fair

When the Central Iowa Tourism Board was asked why the Iowa State Fair was the biggest state fair in the nation they came up with some interesting answers. They claimed that first and foremost the state fair was built on agriculture and the largest part of the Iowa economy is based on farming. Discounting government up to eighty percent of the jobs in Iowa are in some way related to agriculture. The fair is a great place to showcase their businesses. There is also some big money spent to hire entertainers for the grandstand shows. The performers are well aware of the reputation of the fair and are eager to do a show here. The third reason given was that the food at the fair is some of the best that Iowa has to offer. In a survey of fair goers taken by the board a few years ago seventeen percent of the respondents said that they had come to the fair because it was the only time of the year that they could get their favorite food. Surprisingly the midway rides played almost no part in peoples decision to visit the fair. Apparently the rides are still there because they always have been.
