New Breed Of Mini Notebook Called The Netbook

An Article About Laptops

At the time of writing, the Asus Eee PC is entering its second version of UMPC’s. The Eee PC 700 had a 7-inch screen, with 630 MHz clock speed and a Celeron CPU. It doesn’t sound like much but it made all the difference and was the reason why it sold like crazy. Demand for it is extremely high all over the world and with a price tag of between $200 and $400, it’s no wonder everybody wants one. Today, Asus is about to release the Eee PC 900 and it runs at a higher clock speed of 900 MHz, has a larger 8.9 inch screen and still uses the same Celeron CPU. The difference in the new model is that it can be had in two versions: Linux or Windows XP. The previous UMPC came with a stock Linux setup.

So What’s So Special About This UMPC?

Granted, there have been many companies who have their own form of UMPC. But what makes the Asus Eee PC special is that it can be customized greatly. A person with a little computing prowess and perhaps a little engineering background can add all sorts of things to the stock device that’s out of the box. For example, people have been known to add after market touch screen to their Eee PC. It’s become so popular that the company Asus is considering releasing a stock touch screen version in the future. So first and foremost, the Eee PC is not just minuscule and inexpensive; it’s also highly customizable and all you need is a little computer knowledge.
